4 Adventure activities every Mumbaikar has done for FREE!
‘Aey dil hai mushkil jeena yahan, zara hatke, zara bachke, ye hai BUMBAI meri jaan’
People who’ve been in the city will know that Mumbai is not just a city, it is an emotion. It’s not for no reason that it is called the city of dreams. Whether it’s the undying spirit of people, success tales, crushed dreams, flooded streets or the pace at which the city runs, there’s something different about everything in Mumbai. A day here is just as adventurous as a lifetime.
Here are a few thrills that Mumbai rewards (or let’s say obliges) you with for paying a visit –
1) Local Train
Chances are you’ve already heard about this one and so has the world but the reason to that is the sheer madness that happens inside a Mumbai local during rush hours. It all starts with an attempt to make it to the platform. I say ‘attempt’ because it is a real task. Once you’re there, be prepared to miss a few trains before you finally get into one. And when your luck favors you enough to get in, live the adventurous ride with seven people standing on a spot meant for one & wait till you’re automatically alighted. (No, we’re not complaining. It’s our lifeline, in the truest sense)
2) Street food
Lifeline 2.0. If you’re wondering how this one is thrilling, visit a street food joint on a Saturday at 8PM & try getting yourself a meal. Believe me, you will know. The iconic street food joints in Mumbai give you the real ‘taste’ of the city. Not only will they leave you with a happy stomach but also convince you to contemplate quitting your job to open up one of your own.
(I steal this chance to wholeheartedly thank all the annas, chai walas, wada pav walas & sandwich walas for being there for us when we have nowhere to go)
3) Traffic hour drive
I know I didn’t have to mention this one & it’s as obvious as it can get. But, I can’t let go of the opportunity to talk about one incident. This one time I had gone to the airport to drop a friend who was flying to Kolkata. That evening, it took me a little longer to get back & while I was still on the way, my friend rang me up to tell me that she had landed. It was then that the storm hit me & I realized how we’ve become so friendly (at least habitual) to our daily grind on the streets.
4) Street shopping
When all the malls in the city fail you, the streets are going to be your solace. Whether it’s the long Colaba Stretch or Bandra’s hidden treasures, street shopping in Mumbai will always be a satisfying experience. As for the thrill part, when you buy a piece initially quoted at INR 500 for INR 50, it’s all taken care of.
While the list is endless, these ones are my picks. We’re sure you have some exciting stories & we’d love to know. Tell us your #JustMumbaiThings by dropping a comment.
